Man Arrested for Series of Alleged Molestation Cases in Serangoon

The Singapore Police Force has arrested a 49-year-old man suspected of being involved in multiple cases of outrage of modesty. The arrest follows an incident at Serangoon’s NEX Shopping Mall on the night of 5 August 2025, when a woman reported that an unknown man had allegedly molested her.

According to police, the report was lodged at about 11.31pm. Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division quickly launched investigations, reviewing CCTV footage from the mall and surrounding areas. Within 15 hours of the complaint, the suspect’s identity was established, and he was taken into custody.

Preliminary findings suggest the man may be linked to at least five other similar offences. Police believe he targeted multiple victims over an unspecified period, raising serious concerns over public safety in crowded venues such as shopping malls and public transport hubs.

Court Charges Under Penal Code for Sexual Offences

The suspect is set to be charged in court on 8 August 2025 under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871, which addresses the offence of outrage of modesty. Under Singapore law, the crime carries a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment, a fine, caning, or any combination of these punishments.

Police reiterated their zero-tolerance stance towards sexual offenders, warning that those who threaten the personal safety of the community will face stern legal consequences. The authorities also stressed that they will continue to work with public entertainment venues, transport operators, and local communities to strengthen measures that deter molestation cases.
