Kenny Tok was disinterested in his studies and dropped out of ITE in 2011. But after NS, he decided to live life differently. He returned to ITE, worked hard and got a perfect GPA. He is currently pursuing a Diploma in Electronic & Computer Engineering at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Kenny received the LKY-STEP Award and the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Book Prize.
Four former Ngee Ann Poly students – Terrence Goh, Jasper Yap, Rachel Cheang and Lynnette Teo – developed an app that teaches Singapore Sign Language through Augmented Reality. This was one of 5 projects which received the inaugural Lee Hsien Loong Interactive Digital Media Smart Nation Award.
Muhammad Solehan Bin Hamid, a student at ASPN Katong School, is the Head Prefect in his school. A helpful student talented in art, his art pieces are displayed in school or often given as gifts to guests. He received the inaugural Lee Kuan Yew Exemplary Student Award.
These are a few of the stories behind the 163 Special Awards recipients yesterday. I wish them all the very best in their future.
