According to the media release, the Singapore government has ordered Facebook to restrict Singapore users access to National Times Singapore (NTS) FB page.
According to the Ministry of Communication and Information (MCI), NTS has been releasing false statements on their FB page. Therefore, the Singapore Government has requested Facebook to restrict Singapore user access to the page under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (Pofma).
According to MCI, the Facebook Page was run by an Australian Citizen Alex Tan. He had made serious and baseless claims about Singapore’s judiciary being biased. The page has been marked as Declared Online Location (DOL).
Under DOL, visitors will be warned about the webpage for releasing falsehood.
This is the fourth page run by Alex Tan subjected to disabling order. The three other pages restricted were States Times Review, Singapore States Times and Alex Tan Zhi Xiang own FB page.
