
Singapore sees a drop in population by 0.3 % to 5.69 million as compared to Jun 2019. The decrease was due to the reduction of the non-resident population in Singapore.
However, the number of Singapore citizens increased by 0.6% reaching a total of 3.52 million. The Singapore population continues to age at a steady pace with an increase of 0.8% as compared to last year.
There is a drop in the number of permanent residents population from 525,300 to 521,000 which is a 2.1% drop. The reduction was said to be due to the decrease in foreign employment with work permit holders decreasing the most.
The decrease was due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic when many foreigners in Singapore lost their job.
