In a distressing incident on Tuesday (Dec 12) at midnight, a woman’s supposed relief at booking a Grab ride turned into a harrowing experience as the driver, despite having a five-star rating, put her life in jeopardy by speeding at an alarming 110kmh on the Ayer Rajah Expressway.

A Desperate Choice Amidst Discomfort

The anonymous passenger, feeling unwell, boarded the Grab ride in Clementi, opting for a swift journey to her Novena home. However, what unfolded during the ride left her praying for her life.

The driver’s speed, exceeding the legal limit, reached a dangerous 110kmh on the expressway. The passenger, terrified, noticed the driver swerving without slowing down. Adding to the peril, the driver emanated the unmistakable scent of beer, intensifying the passenger’s fear.

A Silent Plea for Survival

Texting a friend during the alarming ride, the passenger expressed her fear, praying not to meet a tragic fate. Despite wearing a seatbelt, the excessive speed and erratic driving left her feeling helpless and vulnerable.

In a disturbing revelation, the passenger admitted refraining from reprimanding the driver during the journey due to the fear of potential violence. Being the sole occupant in the car, she chose silence over confrontation, desperately hoping for a safe arrival at her destination.

Contacting Grab the next day, the passenger shared her traumatic experience. However, the response she received was a meager ‘one-time goodwill’ reimbursement of $3 from her $16.10 ride. The passenger expressed frustration, questioning the severity of the consequences faced by the driver.

Grab’s Response and Passenger’s Outrage

Grab’s message indicated their inability to provide a refund since the trip was completed. The company assured that they would contact the driver to prevent a recurrence. However, the woman remains incensed, emphasizing the need for a more substantial penalty for the driver’s reckless behavior.

Expressing concern for others’ safety, the passenger stressed the importance of Grab taking drink driving seriously. She lamented the lack of a more severe penalty for the driver, highlighting the potential dangers faced by unsuspecting passengers.

The woman, still shaken by the incident, voiced her dissatisfaction with the $3 Grab credit offered, equating it to a minimal valuation of her life. She urged Grab to reconsider its response, emphasizing the potential consequences of not addressing such incidents more seriously.
