Seriously ah, I cannot take it anymore. Every morning during school drop-off time, driving around neighborhood areas like Bishan, Tampines, or Bedok is like playing Russian Roulette with these primary and secondary school kids.
Just this morning, I was driving along a two-lane road near a school zone. Safe speed, around 30 to 40 km/h, because I know morning traffic is always chaotic. Out of nowhere, this secondary school kid wearing headphone, eyes 100% glued to his phone playing Mobile Legends or watching TikTok, just stepped off the curb to cross the road.
Mind you, NO zebra crossing, NO traffic light, NOTHING. He didn’t even bother to look left or right! Not even a 0.5-second glance!
I literally had to JAM BREAK. My car tires screeched, my whole dashboard contents flew forward, and my coffee almost spilt everywhere. You know what’s the best part? The kid didn’t even flinch. He just casually looked up for two seconds, didn’t even look apologetic or scared, gave me a deadpan face, and CONTINUED WALKING WHILE LOOKING BACK AT HIS PHONE. Bro, your life almost reset to zero, you know or not?!
If I was driving a heavy lorry, or if I was distracted looking for parking space, that kid would be in A&E or worse already. Then who gets blamed? The driver, right? “Oh, driver never pay attention in school zone!” But how to dodge when the child walks into traffic like a blind NPC?!
Parents, PLEASE WAKE UP CAN OR NOT? Talk to your children! Teach them basic road safety again!
- Green light doesn’t mean it’s 100% safe to blindly step out.
- Zebra crossing is not a magical forcefield that stops 1.5-ton metal bullets instantly.
- Put the damn phone into the bag when crossing the road!
Don’t wait until your kid gets hit by car then start crying to MP or posting on Mothership complaining about road safety. Safety starts at home! Put down the screen for just 2 minutes while walking, your rank match can wait! 😤
