Singapore Airlines and Scoot Suspend Flights as Middle East Conflict Escalates

Singapore’s national carrier, Singapore Airlines, has cancelled multiple services to the Middle East following a sharp escalation in hostilities involving the United States, Israel and Iran. Its budget arm, Scoot, has also suspended selected flights as the security situation deteriorates across the region.

The airline group confirmed that six flights scheduled over two days have been called off. These include four Singapore Airlines services operating between Singapore and Dubai, as well as two Scoot flights linking Singapore with Jeddah. The cancellations come amid heightened concerns over airspace safety and regional missile activity.

In a statement, the carrier said it is closely tracking developments in the Middle East and will make further operational adjustments if required. Passengers affected by the disruption are advised to update their contact details through the “Manage Booking” feature on the respective airline websites or sign up for mobile alerts to receive the latest notifications.

Heightened Tensions Spark Travel Disruptions

The flight suspensions follow a wave of military action that has rattled global markets and aviation routes. On Feb. 28, Israel announced that it had launched what it described as a pre-emptive strike against Iran. Shortly after, US President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces had commenced what he termed “major combat operations” targeting Iranian military capabilities.

Iran responded with a large-scale missile offensive affecting multiple locations across the Middle East. According to reports by CNN and BBC, strikes or interceptions were recorded in Israel, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan and Kuwait. Explosions were also reported in parts of Iran, including the capital, Tehran.

Four US military bases in the region were said to have been targeted, with blasts reportedly heard from Dubai to Doha. In the United Arab Emirates, at least one fatality was reported after authorities intercepted incoming missiles.

Embassies Urge Singaporeans to Stay Indoors

Amid the rapidly evolving security landscape, Singapore’s embassies across the Middle East have issued advisories urging citizens to remain indoors and exercise heightened vigilance. Singaporeans in affected areas are encouraged to monitor official government channels and register with the nearest embassy where necessary.

The developments have sent ripples through the global aviation and travel insurance sectors, with airlines reassessing flight paths to avoid high-risk airspace. For travellers, the unfolding situation underscores the importance of comprehensive travel insurance coverage and staying updated on geopolitical risks when planning international trips.

With tensions showing little sign of easing, airlines are expected to continue reviewing operations to safeguard passengers and crew. Travellers heading to or transiting through the Middle East are advised to check directly with their airlines for the most current information before heading to the airport.
