A driver of a Singapore-registered vehicle has come under fire online after allegedly leaving the scene of an accident in Johor despite repeatedly assuring those involved that he would not flee.
The incident gained widespread attention after videos and photos were shared on a Facebook group frequented by motorists travelling between Singapore and Malaysia.
According to the woman who uploaded the footage, the accident involved her sister and occurred somewhere in Johor. While the exact location and date were not disclosed, the videos quickly went viral, attracting thousands of reactions and shares from social media users.
In the footage, the driver of the Singapore-registered car, dressed in a blue T-shirt, can be seen interacting with the other party involved in the collision.
Driver Repeatedly Says He Will Not Run Away
The woman filming the encounter was heard asking the driver for his identification details following the accident.
Instead of providing identification, the man allegedly responded that recording him on video was sufficient.
Throughout the clip, the driver repeatedly stated that he would not “run away” from the situation.
Viewers also noted that his speech appeared slurred, leading some online users to speculate that he may have been under the influence of alcohol. The person who uploaded the video similarly claimed that the driver smelled strongly of alcohol at the time of the incident.
Photos accompanying the post showed that the airbags in the Singapore-registered vehicle had been deployed, suggesting a significant impact during the crash.
Smiles, Poses And Sticks Out Tongue At Camera
As the exchange continued, the driver appeared unusually relaxed despite the circumstances.
At various points in the video, he smiled at the camera, posed for photographs and even stuck out his tongue while being recorded.
His behaviour left many netizens shocked, with some questioning why he appeared unconcerned despite being involved in a traffic accident.
The incident took an unexpected turn when the man eventually walked back towards his vehicle.
Says “Bye Bye” Before Driving Away
Approximately one minute into the recording, the driver could be heard saying “bye bye” before getting into his vehicle and driving off.
The woman behind the camera was heard remarking that he was unlikely to get very far and could potentially end up causing another accident.
Images shared online showed visible damage to the other vehicle involved, including dents along the driver’s side door and front fender.
According to the Facebook post, the affected family has since lodged a police report regarding the incident.
Netizens Call For Action
The viral post has since accumulated more than 1,300 shares and over 1,400 reactions, with many commenters expressing outrage over the driver’s actions.
Several social media users tagged Singapore authorities in the comments section, hoping that the individual could be identified and investigated.
At the time of writing, no official statement has been issued regarding the outcome of the police report or whether the driver has been located.
Investigations are believed to be ongoing.
