A 56-year-old Singaporean motorcyclist has died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into the rear of a Toyota Vellfire along Malaysia’s North-South Expressway.
The fatal accident occurred at around 2pm on 2 August on the southbound stretch of the expressway between Simpang Renggam and Sedenak in Johor.
Police said the victim had been riding with two friends when the crash happened.
Rider Was Travelling With Two Friends
According to Kulai District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee, the deceased was travelling southbound together with two Malaysian friends, aged 57 and 39.
Each of the three men was riding a separate motorcycle.
During the journey, the Singaporean rider allegedly lost control of his motorcycle before crashing into the rear of a Toyota Vellfire travelling in the same direction.
He suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Earlier Reports Mentioned Multi-Vehicle Collision
Videos circulating online shortly after the incident showed several damaged motorcycles lying across the expressway, leading many to believe four motorcycles had collided with the MPV.
The crash blocked two lanes of the North-South Expressway, causing heavy congestion stretching for approximately 11.2 kilometres.
Police have since clarified that while multiple motorcycles were present at the scene, the fatal impact occurred after the victim’s motorcycle lost control and struck the rear of the Vellfire.
Investigation Ongoing
Authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the crash.
No further details have been released regarding the condition of the other riders or the occupants of the Toyota Vellfire.
The incident serves as another reminder of the dangers faced by motorcyclists on busy highways, particularly during group rides and high-speed travel.
