In a shocking incident, local actor Ryan Lian, 39, was allegedly attacked and stabbed multiple times in the face outside NEX shopping mall in Serangoon on November 22, 2024. According to reports, the attacker, a 21-year-old man, has been charged with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon.
Lian, known for his roles in Jack Neo-directed movies such as “Long Long Time Ago” and its sequel, as well as “Ah Boys To Men 4”, was reportedly at the taxi stand outside the mall with his friends when the attacker approached him and stabbed him at least three times in the face. The actor managed to escape after a struggle, but not before sustaining serious injuries.
In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, Lian recounted the terrifying ordeal, saying, “I saw him holding a knife, and then I realised my face was bleeding. I was so scared that my hands were shaking. I can still remember it clearly. If I hadn’t reacted quickly, I might have died.”
One of Lian’s friends, who owns a hair salon in NEX, witnessed the attack and rushed to help the actor. The friend also sustained an injury in the process. Together, they managed to subdue the attacker and called the police and ambulance.
Lian was discharged from the hospital on November 25, but not before being warned by doctors that he may be left with permanent scars. The actor expressed concerns about his future in the entertainment industry, saying that he may consider retiring if he does not act in a movie after his injury.
The 21-year-old attacker, Aaron Samuel Yukon, has been charged with one count of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon and faces up to seven years in jail, with caning, a fine, or any combination of such punishments if found guilty. He is scheduled to appear in court again on November 29.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and has left fans and colleagues alike in a state of disbelief. As Lian recovers from his injuries, the community remains hopeful for his speedy recovery and return to the screen.
