A Singaporean man who visited a car wash in Johor Bahru (JB) is warning others after what he described as a “nightmare” encounter with aggressive staff. His experience, shared on TikTok, has since gone viral, drawing widespread attention from both Singaporean and Malaysian netizens.
In the video posted on Wednesday (Oct 8), the man narrated how the car wash staff refused to provide a standard wash for his vehicle. Instead, they insisted he take up their “water wax treatment”, which cost significantly more. When he declined the offer, one employee allegedly told him that since they did not have enough customers that day, they would only perform “water wax treatments” and not the usual “normal wash”.
The short clip, which has garnered over 431,000 views and nearly 9,000 likes, shows three employees confronting the driver. One of them repeatedly asked why he was filming, while another appeared visibly agitated.
Confrontation Turns Aggressive
According to the driver, the situation quickly escalated when he tried to leave. The employees allegedly became aggressive, with one pulling on his car door to prevent him from closing it. They also demanded that he delete the videos he had recorded of the encounter.
He later shared that he felt unsafe during the confrontation and wanted to warn others — especially Singaporeans who frequent JB for car services — to be cautious.
AsiaOne reported that they have reached out to the driver for more details, though the car wash involved does not have any listed contact information online.
Poor Ratings and Complaints Online
A quick search on Google revealed that the same car wash holds a one-star rating from 12 reviews. Several past customers accused the staff of being pushy, dishonest, and unprofessional. Some claimed that employees tried to upsell unnecessary services or performed treatments without permission.
One reviewer shared that a worker applied a polishing compound on his car bonnet even after being told to stop, while another said the staff were rude and ignored requests.
In September, a similar complaint was posted about the same establishment, where a driver claimed his car hood was scratched after staff attempted to polish it without consent.
For Singaporeans who often cross the border to JB for affordable car grooming services, this viral case serves as a reminder to check reviews carefully and stay alert when dealing with unfamiliar businesses.
