Singtel Warns of Ongoing Network Glitches After Recent Disruptions

Singapore’s largest telecom operator, Singtel, has cautioned that a small number of customers may continue to face brief service interruptions over the coming days, following a series of recent network disruptions.

In its latest update, the company acknowledged the inconvenience caused and explained that ongoing system and network adjustments are being carried out to stabilise performance. While most services have already been restored, Singtel noted that intermittent issues may still occur, particularly during peak usage periods.

The announcement comes after several days of connectivity problems that affected mobile users across the island, prompting frustration and concerns over service reliability.

Timeline Reveals Multiple Technical Issues

The disruptions began on March 16, when around 15 per cent of Singtel’s customers experienced mobile connectivity problems. According to the company, 4G services were restored by early afternoon, while 5G connections gradually resumed shortly after.

Although most users regained access within hours, full service restoration was only confirmed later that evening. However, issues did not end there.

On March 17, approximately 2,000 users encountered further disruptions, which Singtel attributed to a software bug linked to a pre-planned IT system upgrade. This issue was resolved by the afternoon, but additional complications emerged the following day.

A network reconfiguration exercise on March 18 triggered a temporary surge in traffic, resulting in another short-lived disruption. The issue was addressed within an hour, but it added to a string of incidents that affected customer confidence.

Ongoing Optimisation Efforts and Customer Impact

Singtel has emphasised that the various incidents were not directly related, but rather separate issues that occurred in close succession. The company is now focused on fine-tuning its systems to prevent further instability.

Despite these efforts, some users may still encounter occasional connectivity hiccups. Singtel has reassured customers that its technical teams are working around the clock to fully resolve the situation and restore optimal service levels.

The episode highlights the increasing complexity of modern telecommunications infrastructure, particularly with the integration of 5G networks and ongoing digital upgrades. Even planned improvements can sometimes lead to unintended disruptions.

As Singapore continues to rely heavily on digital connectivity for work, communication, and daily transactions, network reliability remains a critical concern. Customers are advised to monitor updates from Singtel while the company completes its system enhancements in the days ahead.
