A 66-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly attacked a woman and another man with knives at the void deck of Block 965 Jurong West Street 93. The disturbing incident, which took place on July 10, has shocked residents in the area, with witnesses claiming jealousy was at the root of the violent confrontation.

According to  Shin Min Daily News, the woman involved, identified only as Geneina (name transliterated), shared that the suspect was upset upon seeing her casually chatting with two other men at the block. She firmly denied any romantic ties with the alleged assailant, stating that they were merely neighbours and not in any kind of relationship.

As a result of the attack, Geneina sustained facial injuries, including a deep cut of approximately 4cm between her brows. One of the men she was speaking with suffered a head wound, while the third man, 62-year-old Rosman (also transliterated), escaped unhurt as he was in a wheelchair during the ordeal.

Eyewitness Account Reveals Suspect’s Odd Behaviour

Rosman, the sole uninjured witness, recounted to reporters that he had just approached Geneina and the other man for a friendly chat when the alleged assailant appeared. Rosman said the suspect approached them repeatedly and tried to persuade Geneina to leave with him. After she refused, the man’s behaviour became increasingly erratic.

Despite Rosman’s attempts to calm the man down, the situation escalated. The suspect allegedly went back to his residence, retrieved two knives, concealed them under his clothing, and returned to the void deck. He then allegedly launched a surprise attack, slashing the other man and Geneina before fleeing the scene.

Rosman, visibly shaken, said he feared for his life. “I’m in a wheelchair, and I have a chronic illness. If he had turned his attention to me, I wouldn’t have been able to defend myself,” he said. His mobile phone was also damaged during the chaos when it fell and cracked.

Police Investigation Ongoing; Suspect Linked to Drug Offences

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) confirmed receiving a distress call around 6:40pm. The two victims reportedly sustained minor injuries and declined hospitalisation. The suspect, who also had minor injuries, was taken to the hospital and later arrested.

He now faces charges for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon. Authorities also revealed he is being investigated for suspected drug-related offences. Two knives were recovered from the scene and seized as case exhibits. The matter has since been referred to the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), and investigations are ongoing.

This unsettling incident highlights the dangers of unresolved personal disputes and the potential for sudden violence in public residential spaces. Community safety remains a top priority for authorities as they continue to monitor and address such disturbances across Singapore.
