Following the train breakdown on the Circle Line yesterday (7 April) due to “signalling system faults”, SMRT issued an apology and said in an updated statement earlier today that their engineers had worked “through the night” to diagnose the problems and replaced the faulty Signalling System Automatic Training Control (ATC).
SMRT’s statement
[UPDATE on the signalling system fault on the Circle Line]:
SMRT engineers continued to work through the night to diagnose and replace the Signalling System Automatic Train Control (ATC) cards.
The ATC software logs, together with the faulty ATC cards, will be forwarded to ALSTOM for further diagnosis.
In the meantime, SMRT, LTA, and ALSTOM will continue to closely monitor the performance of the Signalling ATC system for smooth passenger services.
Recap
[UPDATE Circle Line, 7 Apr, at 3.25pm]:
Regular train services progressively resumed at about 3pm. Free regular bus services and bridging bus services have ceased.
On 7 Apr at about 12.40pm, a signalling system fault occurred between Marina Bay and Dhoby Ghaut stations towards Paya Lebar station.
For the safety of our commuters, trains were moving at a slower speed across the affected stretch, which resulted in longer train travel time. Train services were available throughout the incident.
Our engineers were on site to recover train services. Additional staff were deployed to assist commuters.
In-train and station announcements were made to inform commuters of up to 40 minutes’ additional train travel time.
Free regular and bridging bus services were activated between Marina Bay/ Dhoby Ghaut and Stadium stations. Commuters were advised to take alternative lines.
We will work with LTA and the Signalling Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to investigate the root cause and enhance the signalling system to prevent future occurrences of this nature.
We are sorry for affecting your Friday afternoon commute.
