SMUGGLERS CAUGHT WITH 1500 CARTONS OF CONTRABAND CIG AT TUAS CHECKPOINT

According to an ICA media release, An attempt to smuggle duty-unpaid cigarettes disguised within a cargo consignment of a Malaysia-registered truck was thwarted by ICA officials at Tuas Checkpoint on July 6, 2021.

The scanned picture of the shipment listed as miscellaneous sundry commodities exhibited several abnormalities, and ICA inspectors had recommended it for additional inspection. Among the varied products, 1,500 cartons of duty-free cigarettes were recovered.

A 24-year-old Malaysian male driver was involved in the case, which was submitted to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
