On 6 December 2019, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority(ICA) officers managed to foil a smuggling activity at Tuas Checkpoint.
ICA officers directed a Malaysian registered cargo truck for further checks and found more than 6,000 cartons of contraband cigarettes hidden among other goods.
The contraband cigarettes were hidden among boxes of tissue. Two months ago a cargo truck was also caught hiding the cigarettes among toilet rolls.
A 32-year-old male Malaysian driver was referred to Singapore Customs for further investigation.

Quoted from ICA: “This method of concealment is a cause for concern as similar methods may be used by people with ill intent to smuggle security items into Singapore. “
“The ICA will continue to conduct security checks on passengers and vehicles so as to safeguard Singapore’s security.”
