
This is to relate to a bad experience with a Grab driver.
Was returning home with the family from Suntec. While coming to pick us up the driver made a wrong turn & went round the block once. We didn’t mind as it was just a few mins extra waiting time. I noticed that the driver had his mobile on his lap. This meant that he had to take his eyes off the road to loop at his phone.
Didn’t think much of it then. As we approached Hougang, the driver seemed to lose control while negotiating a curve at 80-90 Kms/per hr. He jerked the steering wheel & straightened quickly. It gave us all a real scare. Again didn’t say anything to avoid distracting the driver. 100 m further on, he missed the left turn & went straight at the signal.
Now, I had to tell him that he missed the turn. He flew into a rage, asking me not to shout at him or distract him & he was following the map & so on. I told him in no uncertain terms that he was driving badly. And asked him to correct the route. He made a U-turn at the next signal & got back in the right direction. Now, I told him to drop us off at the bus top ( opposite our condo).
He didn’t respond, so I repeated my instructions to him again. He just ignored & continued to drive, missing the bust stop! I had to tell him… ” I told you to stop here. You missed it”. He says ‘ Oh, I’ll take a turn”. Takes another U-turn & comes on the other side of the road, on the same side as the condo. Now I tell him, “Ok drop us here on the left, we’ll go from there”.Â
Twice.. Again he ignores & keeps driving. I had to raise my voice & tell him
” I’m asking you to stop, why are you driving on?”
Once more he goes ballistic :” Don’t shout at me. You need to show respect & so on…”
Have used hundreds of Grab trips & never had an issue. The drivers are always polite. They always pay attention to instructions. This one was different. Left a bad taste.
