A job listing was posted on September 2, looking for freelance writers who were willing to work for $7.50 per 1,000 words.
The post claimed to be “helping locals” by prioritising Singaporeans in the application process and lending a helping hand to freelancers.
The jobscope included researching and writing a 1,000 word blog post, generating content for various blogs that the company manages.
A netizen who shared the job listing said she finds the pay “insulting and exploitative”, adding that the company shouldn’t be lowballing freelancers.
She also said that she’d charge at least $150 for an article with 1,000 words.
The job listing also claims that freelancers with zero experience and qualifications are welcomed.
Needless to say, the post went viral and many netizens are up in arms, with many also calling the job offer “insulting”.
