A Singaporean woman, Pek Ying Ling, 51-years-old, was found dead in a luxury apartment on 6 December, in Westgate Road, Newcastle.
She was allegedly murdered by Fong Soong Hert, 50-years-old, while the couple were visiting Britain.
According to British media, the incident reportedly took place at the County Aparthotel in Newcastle.
The Northumbria police received a call for help at around 7.15am UK time and when emergency services arrived, Madam Pek was found not breathing.
She was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
Fond was then arrested at the scene and charged with her murder and is due to stand trial on 7 January at the Newcastle Crown Court.
The victim’s family have asked for privacy as they are being supported by specialist officers in the wake of the alleged murder.
