S’PORE MAN WHO STOLE $600 WORTH OF POKEMON CARDS, CHARGED & SET TO PLEAD GUILTY

22-year-old Fong Jia Wei was charged in court on 8 August for alleged stealing about $600 worth of Pokemon cards, as he faced charges that included 3 counts of theft, according to The Straits Times.

The alleged trail of theft began on May 2 when Fong purportedly targeted a shop located within the Paya Lebar Square shopping mall. It is claimed that he successfully swiped a box of Pokemon cards, valued at $212.40.

Two days later, Fong’s alleged actions took him to a convenience store situated on Paya Lebar Road. This time, he is accused of making off with a box of Pokemon cards carrying a price tag of $110.60.

The saga took an additional twist on May 8, as Fong reportedly targeted yet another convenience store, this time located on Commonwealth Avenue. The contents of his loot? A box of Pokemon cards valued at $270.

Fong’s spree of alleged thefts came to a screeching halt when he revisited the scene of his initial crime, Paya Lebar Square.

The police were alerted and Fond was then arrested, with the police finding several packets of pokemon cards on him which were believed to be his stolen loot.

Fong is expected to plead guilty to his offences in September.

Singapore Police’s previous statement

he Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a series of theft in dwelling cases and fraudulent possession of property of Pokemon cards, that were stolen from various locations around Singapore.

In May 2023, the Police received several reports from victims regarding four separate cases of theft in dwelling where boxes of Pokemon cards were stolen from stores in the vicinity of Paya Lebar and Clementi.

On 9 May 2023, the Police received a call for assistance as the victim reported that the same man who had stolen the Pokemon cards previously, had returned to the store. The man was found in possession of an opened box of Pokemon cards that did not belong to him. Through ground enquiries and with

the aid of images from CCTV cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the man to be allegedly involved in three other cases of theft in dwelling that happened on 2 May 2023, 4 May 2023 and 8 May 2023, and he was subsequently arrested. A total of about 500 Pokemon cards were seized as case exhibits.

The man will be charged in court on 8 August 2023 with theft in dwelling under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871 and fraudulent possession of property under Section 35(1) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act 1906.
