S’PORE POLICE: 315 PEOPLE ARRESTED FOR LOANSHARK INVOLVEMENT, $52K SEIZED

The CID as well as 7 police land divisions, conducted raids islandwide between January 18 and February 7, targeting loan sharking.

316 people have since been arrested, and $52,000 were seized.

33 of the suspects allegedly harassed debtors at the homes, 68 suspects were believed to be runners who helped the Ah-Longs to carry out ATM transfers.

The other 215 suspects purportedly opened bank accounts for the loansharks and provided their ATM cards, personal identification numbers and internet banking tokens.

At the time of writing, police investigations are still ongoing.

Preliminary investigations found that 33 of the suspects allegedly harassed debtors at their homes.
Mobile phones, prepaid SIM cards and other items were also seized during the operations.
