A 23-year-old garbage collector recently appeared in a podcast and shared about his job and how those in his line of work can earn up to $8,000 per month.
Speaking on the @thecommonfolkssg podcast, the man said that garbage collectors can earn a minimum of $5,000 monthly.
He was then asked why he chose to be a garbage collector at such a young age, and the man then told them that he did it for the money.
He added that his supervisor has a Master’s degree, and his colleagues are even riding BMW motorcycles, and they are earning a minimum of $5,000 per month which can go up to $8,000 per month.
The hosts of the podcast then said that the money does sound great but they would feel embarrassed if they were in his shoes, and the man then added that “of course it’s embarrassing, but it’s an honest living and it’s all about the money.”
The man then added that he does get negative comments from his friends and family about his line of work and career choice, but he chooses to ignore them and focus on saving money for his family instead.
He was then asked about how he gets used to the smell of rubbish while working, and the man told them that he only needed 1 day to get used to the rubbish smell.
Netizens in the comments section were varied in their responses, with one affirming the man’s claims and saying that it was indeed possible to make really good money in the industry.
Another netizen added that rubbish truck drivers are paid really well, while another commenter said that despite the handsome pay, if the drivers get into an accident, it will lead to quite a sizeable deduction from their salary.
Other netizens commended the man’s work, saying that they respect him for his career choice and applauded his willingness to work any job as long as it was an honest living.
