Minister of Health Ong Ye Kung said in a Facebook statement appealing for blood donors to come forward to donate blood.
He explained that it is because Singapore is running low on A+ and O+ blood stocks, and they need 600 units for the former and 1,200 units for the latter over the next 2 weeks.
Ong Ye Kung’s statement
To all A+ and O+ blood donors, we need you.
This is a call for more A+ and O+ blood donors to step forward to donate blood.
Our A+ and O+ blood stocks are running at low levels. We need 600 units of A+ blood and 1,200 units O+ blood over the next 2 weeks. Otherwise, major elective surgeries requiring these 2 blood units will have to be postponed.
Visit giveblood.sg to check your eligibility and make an appointment.
Or you can just walk in to any Bloodbanks or community blood drives to donate.
Spread the word. #GiveBloodSaveLivesSg
