S’pore Teen, 17, Allegedly Hits 174km/h On ECP During Police Chase, Crashes Into 6 Vehicles

A 17-year-old teenager in Singapore is set to be charged in court after allegedly driving at extremely high speeds, leading police on a dangerous chase across several roads before crashing into multiple vehicles.

According to the Singapore Police Force, the incident happened on Jan. 16, 2026, at about 10:50pm when Traffic Police officers spotted a car along Paya Lebar Road heading towards Upper Paya Lebar Road.

Instead of stopping, the teenager allegedly sped off upon noticing the officers, triggering a pursuit that stretched across different parts of Singapore.

Investigations revealed that the teenager allegedly reached speeds of up to 174km/h along the East Coast Parkway, where the speed limit is 90km/h. Along Guillemard Road, he was also said to have driven at 96km/h despite the road having a 40km/h speed limit.

Police said the teenager allegedly ignored multiple red lights and even drove against the flow of traffic at locations including Ubi Avenue 2 and Lorong 28 Geylang.

Multiple Vehicles Damaged During Chase

During the pursuit, the teenager allegedly crashed into five stationary vehicles along Paya Lebar Road and Guillemard Road.

The chase finally came to an end after the vehicle collided with a sixth stationary car near the junction of Marine Parade Road and Still Road South.

After the crash, the teenager allegedly fled the scene on foot but was later arrested by Traffic Police officers.

The driver of the sixth vehicle and a 15-year-old passenger reportedly suffered injuries due to the collision.

Further investigations revealed that the vehicle involved was allegedly a deregistered car fitted with a false number plate.

Police officers also found a vaporiser and pod inside the vehicle during the arrest. However, investigations conducted by the Health Sciences Authority resulted in no further action being taken due to insufficient evidence.

Teen Linked To Earlier Driving Incidents

Authorities also disclosed that the teenager had allegedly been involved in two separate traffic-related incidents before the Jan. 16 chase.

In one incident on Jan. 30, 2025, he allegedly took his grandmother’s car without her permission after finding the ignition keys inside an unlocked vehicle. He reportedly drove around for about an hour before returning the car.

His grandmother later realised the car was missing and contacted the police, who subsequently located the vehicle nearby.

In another case on Jan. 8, 2026, police officers conducted checks on a vehicle at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre carpark and allegedly discovered that the teenager had driven the deregistered vehicle from Haig Road to the area.

Investigations found that the vehicle also carried a false number plate. Police said it was a different car from the one involved in the later high-speed pursuit.

The teenager is expected to face multiple charges, including dangerous driving causing hurt, driving while underage, failing to stop when ordered by a police officer, and using a deregistered vehicle.
