A woman in Singapore, Xenia Tan, has been saving money and depositing coins inside her piggy bank for the last 28 years.
She then decided to break it apart and see how much she had saved and accumulated over the last (almost) 3 decades.
She posted a video of herself breaking open her piggy bank on her TikTok page, @hotcheekylace, and cautioned it: “Guess how much is in this piggy bank?”
She said in her video that her father had started saving money in the piggy bank before she was born, and that she didn’t contribute to the money inside as her father had saved for her.
She said that they were scared that the coins inside might’ve been discoloured because it had been inside the piggy bank for a long time, and they decided now was the time to break it open.
Armed with a hammer in hand and surrounded by her family, Xenia swung the hammer on the bronze-coloured piggy and shattered it, as a bunch of coins flowed out.
Her entire family then gathered around the coins, which comprised of $1s, and started counting them together; and the coins were then neatly stacked together.
Tan said at the end of the video that the total amount of coins amounted to about $7,000, quite a difference from the $16,000 that her father had estimated.
