A Singaporean woman, Winnie Heng, recently took to TikTok to share her shocking experience of trust being shattered by her domestic helper.
Despite treating her helper with kindness and generosity, Winnie Heng found herself at the center of a heartbreaking betrayal.
The Unfolding of Suspicion
Winnie Heng’s ordeal began when her husband suspected their helper of stealing money. He had noticed that S$100 had gone missing from his wallet.
Naturally, he confronted the situation, accusing the helper of theft. However, Winnie initially dismissed these allegations, believing that her husband might have misplaced the money.
As time went on, the situation escalated. Another S$160 disappeared from the wallet, and this time, Winnie’s mother joined the ranks of those suspecting the helper. The suspicions grew stronger.
Discovery of Deceit
Fueled by suspicion, Winnie’s mother decided to search the helper’s belongings. Her search unearthed crumpled banknotes hidden away in various corners of the helper’s bag. This discovery was not only incriminating but deeply unsettling.
Subsequently, Winnie and her sister also decided to investigate, and their findings left them in shock. Among the items recovered were cigarettes, Winnie’s jewelry, sunglasses, a handphone stand, and a portable charger, among other items.
A Shocking Betrayal
Winnie Heng had been a generous employer, offering her helper a pocket allowance. She had always provided her with new banknotes, reserving the older ones for her husband. So, when the stolen banknotes were found, it was evident they were not part of the allowance.
What truly hurt Winnie was the discovery of the cigarettes. She couldn’t fathom why her helper would steal them. She even confronted her, questioning whether she intended to resell the cigarettes to friends.
However, the helper admitted to smoking them herself. This was a heartbreaking revelation for Winnie, especially as her children were often in the helper’s care.
An Employer’s Kindness
Throughout her employment, Winnie Heng had gone out of her way to treat her helper well. She had provided her with a new phone when the old one had spoiled.
They had embarked on overseas holidays together, exploring places like Japan. Winnie ensured that her helper enjoyed delicious meals and the comfort of home, far from just plain white rice.
Winnie had even noticed her helper’s fondness for earrings and had bought her some from Japan. She genuinely felt that she had been a generous and considerate employer. However, in light of these shocking revelations, she couldn’t help but question her actions.
