Imagine the excitement of receiving a box of delicious brownies as a belated birthday gift, only to have that joy turn into horror. This was the unfortunate experience of Mdm Farahliza, a GrabFood customer who made arguably one of the most disgusting discoveries in her recent order from Annabella Patisserie.
She found a dead rat squished and flattened inside her food order.
What happened?
In a shocking turn of events, Mdm Farahliza and her husband discovered a squashed, rotting rat in the bag of brownies delivered to their doorstep. The incident not only raised concerns about food safety but also sparked an investigation by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
Ordered as a belated birthday gift, the box of 20 brownies arrived with an unexpected and nauseating addition – a dead rat carcass. The incident left Mdm Farahliza and her husband traumatized and shocked.
Upon opening the delivery bag, the pungent smell immediately caught their attention. To their horror, they found a squashed rat carcass, leaving an indelible mark on what was supposed to be a joyous occasion.
Farahliza shared that she immediately went to the toilet to vomit because she was so disgusted by what she found.
Reporting and Apology
Mdm Farahliza took swift action, lodging complaints with both Grab and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
Annabella Patisserie responded promptly, issuing a full refund and extending a sincere apology via a comment on Farahliza’s ensuing Facebook post on the incident.
The Singapore Food Agency said that they are currently investigating the incident and will not hesitate to take enforcement action against errant food operators.
Here is what the customer said on Facebook (SIC)
This was a horrible traumatized experienced I’ve had with food services. I’ve ordered brownies from Annabella Patisserie via GrabFood today. 8 November 2023. (Receipt attached)
When it was being delivered to my doorstep and was hanged on my gate as per my request. Fyi, The bag was Velcro sealed.
As I opened the door, there was a strong pungent smell from the bag, I was curious so I opened up the bag and took out the box from the bag and found something else inside it. It was dark, I carried it to my dining area where it was lighted to have a clearer look inside the bag and to my horror there was a dead squashed rat inside the bag.
Singapore Food Agency (SFA), kindly look into this matter. This is a very serious food contamination and hygiene matter.
