The Ministry of Manpower said in a statement earlier today (4 July) that a 59-year-old worker drowned to his death in a workplace accident on 17 May after falling into the sea while crossing a gangway.
He was crossing the gangway from one vessel to another when he fell into the sea after losing his balance.
The man’s body was recovered on 21 May.
The accident took place on a vessel occupied by Unitrust Marine Services, at Eastern Bunkering A Anchorage.
The deceased was an employee of Alliance Instrumentation.
Preliminary investigations showed that the deceased was wearing a life jacket at the time and carrying a backpack with equipment inside at the time.
This latest fatality takes the number of workplace fatalities for this year to 28.
