Singaporean Woman’s Car Allegedly Broken Into at Johor Bahru Mall
A Singaporean woman, Julia Lim, recently shared her distressing experience online after her car was allegedly broken into while parked at Paradigm Mall in Johor Bahru. The incident, which occurred on June 15, 2025, resulted in the theft of her cabin luggage and carry-all bag from the vehicle’s boot.
Incident Details
According to Lim’s post on the MY SG Road Trip – Eat, Play, Stay Malaysia! Facebook group, the break-in happened between 2 PM and 5 PM while her car was parked near the mall’s lift lobby. Upon returning to her vehicle, she discovered that the window had been smashed and her belongings were missing. Lim mentioned that they had only stopped for lunch before heading to their Airbnb for check-in, and there were no obvious valuables left in plain sight.
Seeking Help and Advice
After the incident, Lim sought assistance from the online community, expressing uncertainty about the next steps. She was unsure whether to cancel her staycation and return to Singapore or to proceed with getting the window repaired in Johor Bahru. Many netizens responded with advice, urging her to file a police report in Johor Bahru and to contact her insurance provider regarding potential coverage for her losses.
Some commenters suggested that she should continue with her holiday, while others reminded her to avoid leaving valuables in the car in the future. Lim clarified that they had taken precautions by placing their luggage out of sight.
Filing a Police Report
Later that day, Lim provided an update, stating that mall security had assisted her in contacting the police. The investigating officer advised her to go to the nearest police station to file a formal report, which needed to be in Malay. To facilitate the process, Lim and her companions used Google Translate to prepare a written account of the incident and a list of stolen items.
After filing the report, they were instructed to return to Paradigm Mall to meet the investigating officer again, although the reason for this was unclear due to language barriers.
Decision to Cut Trip Short
On June 16, Lim updated her followers, revealing that upon returning to meet the officer, they encountered a different officer who took additional photos and instructed them to go to Skudai Police Station to provide another statement, despite having already reported the incident at Tampoi Station. Frustrated by the ongoing inconvenience and lack of clarity, Lim and her companions decided to cut their trip short and return to Singapore.
Despite the ordeal, Lim expressed gratitude towards Paradigm Mall’s management for their assistance. The mall arranged for housekeeping staff to clean up the broken glass and helped secure the car window with plastic and tape. Additionally, a security guard was assigned to watch over the vehicle while Lim and her companions managed to grab a quick meal before leaving.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance when parking in public areas and the potential challenges faced when dealing with cross-border incidents.
