Considering taking a huge leap of faith to apply for PR in Australia. I’ve never even been there, but I don’t wish to be here.

Don’t bash me please. Better than being dead here. Let me know of any regrets you may have had and decided to come back.

Here are what netizens think

  • Lived in melbourne for 4 years for uni, visited Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and Hobart while I was there. Honestly it’s not for everyone, I had a blast because I made a handful of friends I still hold dear.
But if you don’t like the culture or feel like you don’t fit it then it will be a challenge. It’s weird how you never visited yet you want to apply for PR? I suggest visit first and stay for a month to see how life is.
  • I’ve moved twice, to the UK years ago and recently to Melbourne. Moving overseas is hard, there is tons of paperwork to do, prep work for leaving the country and then finally settling down in the new country.

Obviously the cost is going to be high. Australian PR is 4k minimum if you DIY, can go up to 8k+ if you get an immigration agent. Depends on where you want to go, Sydney and Melbourne is experiencing an influx of immigrants.

Rental is hard to find and cost is going up. If you go further out in the suburbs then you need to buy a car. A decent used one is around 15k minimum.

Then, you need to establish a support system since you probably won’t have friends or family. This will take months or years to develop. If you run into problem and have no one to turn to for help, it can be depressing.

You will lose access to things that you are used to and routine that is comforting to you. For example, I’ll never be able to taste the 926 Yishun laksa as and when I want to, which is my ultimate comfort food.

All in all, it is a hard thing to do, I probably won’t do it again since I’m getting tired of doing big moves, but I’ve never regretted any of them.
