A Facebook post has gone viral, a man wrote a very long Facebook post stating how he disapproves people who are celebrating June 19.

June 19 is the start of Phase 2 where most activities return to normal. As the authorities stated that the progression of each phase will be carefully monitored and calibrated.

Here is Facebook user Felix Sim’s Facebook Post

I don’t understand why I see people in Singapore celebrating 19 June.

Yes, there is progress, and there are small wins. But there is no vaccine. At least not today, and definitely not on 19 June.

Dexamethasone is a breakthrough. For COVID-19 patients, on respirators, or those who require oxygen. Read: SERIOUS cases. Which is a small percentage. Dexamethasone is not used to treat the milder cases.

Which means there are still asymptomatic cases and clusters in Singapore. Remember back then, when Indonesia proudly said there were no cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia?

🤗To our friends and family who’s reading this – we love you and we’d love to meet up with you. And even though the G has allowed 5 people to meet in a group, you won’t be seeing anyone in our family in that group of 5. We’re not paranoid, we just love our kids. A lot. I͟f͟ ͟o͟n͟e͟ ͟o͟f͟ ͟u͟s͟ ͟g͟e͟t͟s͟ ͟i͟t͟,͟ ͟a͟l͟l͟ ͟o͟f͟ ͟u͟s͟ ͟g͟e͟t͟s͟ ͟i͟t͟.͟ This means our newborn, our 3-year old, and our 5-year old will be isolated. We love our children more than we love that “one drink”, or that “quick dinner”. So until the fundamentals change, we won’t be meeting you in person for awhile. The G may be able to pay for our treatment, but they won’t be able to pay for the guilt we will have to live with if our children have to be put in isolation wards for 14 days because of our cabin fever.

Oh… and one more thing…

The G announcing Phase 2 doesn’t change the fact that the economy as a whole is still in disarray. Yes, shops and F&B outlets (that have not embraced the 5th industrial revolution) have suffered because of the lack of demand. But the real problem is the supply. Let me explain. Beijing is experiencing a second wave of the virus, 6 months after it was first reported in China. They have announced a lockdown of a few cities because of this.

If that doesn’t work, then the entire country will once again be locked down. The world’s supplier – China – may once again be locked down because of a second wave. When there is no supply, businesses in the downstream get affected (remember when your Taobao package was delayed a few months ago?). When businesses can’t get their supplies, they cannot generate revenue – COVID or no COVID.

They start to cut costs, landlords suffer, and employees get salary cuts. This then causes demand to drop (if you’re at the verge of losing your job, will you REALLY still buy that new PS5 or the iPhone 12?). Supply affects demand in our world, not the other way round. “Opening up” the shops, won’t change this. Nor will it change the fundamentals.

🇸🇬To my friends in Singapore. If you’ve read this far, tell me. Are you celebrating 19 June?
