I never expected things to turn out the way it did. It all started with a joke.
I had just finished uni and was backpacking around Taiwan when I met this girl at a cafe. We got talking and we got along well. I joked that I would date her if she lost 30kg. She laughed and I thought that was it.
Little did I know that she would take me seriously.
Four months later, I received a message from her saying that she had lost 30kg and wanted to meet me in Singapore. I was taken aback and thought it was a joke. But deep down, I was also flattered.
So I agreed to meet her in Singapore. I was totally unprepared for what happened next.
When I saw her, she was really slim and looked so beautiful. I couldn’t believe it. She had worked really hard to make this happen.
I felt really guilty for making the joke and I told her so. She said it was no big deal and that she was actually happy to have achieved her goal. I was really touched by her words.
That was the start of our relationship. We started dating and, over time, we fell in love.
I’m so glad that she took me seriously and made the effort to come to Singapore to meet me. I’m also thankful that she was brave enough to take a chance and make a change in her life.
We are still together and it has been two years since that fateful day. We often look back at that time and laugh. We also joke about how she was able to make me keep my promise.
I’m glad that things worked out the way they did and I’m looking forward to the future. This experience taught me that things can happen when you least expect it. It also taught me that anything is possible if you put in the effort and have the courage to take risks.
