An 80-year-old Singaporean man has been found dead in Indonesia under shocking circumstances, with authorities confirming that his body was encased in cement and dumped into a river. The grim discovery has since led to the arrest of two suspects, as investigations continue into what appears to be a calculated killing.
The elderly man, identified as S, had reportedly been living in Tanah Abang, Jakarta, prior to his disappearance. His family had earlier filed a missing person report after losing contact with him, prompting a police search that would later uncover a disturbing outcome.
According to Indonesian authorities, the victim’s body was discovered on February 20 in the Citanduy River, located in Cilacap Regency. The condition of the body—sealed in hardened cement—immediately raised suspicions of foul play, leading police to launch a full-scale investigation.
Suspects Arrested After Police Trace Evidence
Two Indonesian men, identified only as H and K, were arrested on March 25 at around 9pm. Both individuals are believed to be casual labourers working in sectors such as construction and agriculture.
Police revealed that they were able to identify the suspects after interviewing multiple witnesses and gathering key evidence. At least five individuals were questioned during the course of the investigation, which ultimately pointed to the involvement of the two men.
Initial findings suggest that the suspects played different roles in the alleged murder. One of them is believed to have carried out the fatal assault, while the other assisted in restraining the victim and concealing the crime.
Chilling Details Emerge From Investigation
Authorities disclosed that the attack allegedly took place on February 16 in Sukabumi, a city located roughly 100 kilometres from Jakarta. During the assault, one suspect reportedly struck the victim’s neck multiple times using a bamboo pole.
The second suspect is believed to have silenced the victim by stuffing his mouth, preventing him from calling for help. After the attack, the pair allegedly wrapped the body in bedsheets and plastic before encasing it in cement—an apparent attempt to delay identification and disposal.
Investigators also revealed that the suspects transported the body for approximately 30 minutes before returning to the original location. It was only later that they decided to dispose of the remains in Cilacap, a location significantly further away.
Case Transferred as Cross-Regional Probe Continues
Given that the killing is believed to have occurred in Sukabumi, the case is expected to be handled by the regional police division there. This transfer aims to streamline the investigation and ensure jurisdictional clarity as authorities continue to piece together the motive behind the crime.
The case has drawn significant attention due to its brutality and the victim’s nationality, highlighting ongoing concerns around safety for Singaporeans living or travelling abroad. While Indonesian police have made swift arrests, many questions remain unanswered, particularly regarding the motive and any possible prior relationship between the victim and the suspects.
As investigations continue, the case stands as a stark reminder of the risks that can arise even in seemingly routine living arrangements overseas, especially for elderly individuals residing alone.
