A Singaporean man, Bennedd Chew Wei Fung, was discovered deceased in Penang, Malaysia, on March 12, 2024, several days after his disappearance. According to reports from New Straits Times, the 28-year-old was last seen leaving a wake in Bandar Baru Ayer Itam, Penang, around midnight on March 8.

Chew had informed his friends via WeChat around 1 am on March 9 that he was heading home. He was driving his girlfriend’s vehicle back to his residence at Taman Alor Vista near Relau in Penang when the vehicle plunged 45m into a ravine off Bukit Kukus. Chew was reported missing on March 9 when his friends could not reach him.

On March 12, at approximately 1 pm, a passerby spotted the wreckage and alerted the local fire department. Firefighters discovered Chew’s decomposing body outside the vehicle near Jalan Paya Terubong, which leads to Relau. Chew had suffered severe injuries to his chest and face.

Penang authorities speculate that Chew was either ejected from the vehicle during the crash and died instantly or exited the vehicle after the accident and later succumbed to his injuries. Chew’s family was present during the body retrieval.

His mother, visibly distraught, was heard pleading with her son, saying,

“Fung, mummy will take you back to Singapore. Fung, you heard me? Follow mummy back to Singapore. Mummy [will] bring you home, Fung!”
