A Singaporean wife has recently taken to Facebook to voice her frustration as her husband is falling into depression after losing his job. It is so bad that he picked up smoking as he’s feeling bored at home as he has not work for more than half a year.
Here is the full story.
My husband got retrench just before covid. And till now not been able to find a job. Or more accurately, he does not have the heart to find a new job. He still seems stuck in his old job, like always still saying how could the company retrench him, he’s been so loyal to them for so many years, volunteer work on weekends for free, one of the most experienced and capable in company. He seems to have lost interest in anything, nowadays he just sits at home, watch tv, look after the plant. He does not seem interested to find work. Even I had to submit job applications for him and forced him to go for interviews. But all the interviews failed. I think he still cannot accept his retrenchment. I am scared he’s in depression.
Few days ago i found a packet of cigarettes in his pocket, i was shocked. Why and when you started smoking, I asked. I’m bored at home so nothing to do want to try, he said. I am really very worried about him, he seems to lose all interest in his life. I scared he will have bad influence on our son, he has big exam this year. I don’t know how to help him, he’s only 46. Now family only survive on my income less than 3000 per month..
