Starhub mentioned today, 6th August 2021, that personal data including IC and Mobile numbers of its customers were found on a third party dump site last month.
There were more than 57,000 of such data found by Starhub’s cybersecurity team.
Starhub said that the data belonged to customers who have subscribed to their services before 2007 and that the personal data appears to be around 14 years old.
They also said that no credit card information or bank account information is at risk and Starhub’s information systems and customer database were not compromised.
There is also no indication that the data has been used in a malicious way.
CEO of Starhub, Nikhil Eapen, apologised saying “Data security and customer privacy are serious matters for StarHub, and I apologise for the concern this incident may be causing our affected customers.”
He also promises to be transparent and to keep Starhub’s customers updated on the situation.
Starhub also said that they have attempted to have the document from the data dump site and have taken actions immediately to review their existing security measures to prevent another breach like this.
Customers affected by this will be informed by 20th August 2021, and will be offered six months of complimentary credit monitoring service through the Credit Bureau Singapore.Â
