Student Approached by Youths Selling Vapes Near Dover: Parents Urged to Stay Alert

A recent incident near Dover Rise has raised serious concerns among the Singaporean community, especially parents of school-going children. A student was reportedly approached in broad daylight by two youths who attempted to sell him vape products near a zebra crossing in the Dover area. Fortunately, the student recognised the danger and walked away safely. However, this close call serves as a stark reminder that not all children may know how to react in such situations.

Parents and guardians are strongly encouraged to have open conversations with their children about how to handle encounters involving illegal activities like vaping. Children should be taught to walk away immediately and inform a trusted adult or report the incident to the authorities.

Heightened Concerns Over Vaping and Gang Links

The incident has ignited wider discussions in the community about the possible involvement of gang syndicates in the underground vape market. One concerned citizen highlighted that the distribution of vape products may mimic multi-level marketing (MLM) structures. Under this theory, student “recruits” may be lured into selling illegal vaping products to their peers for commission, making them vulnerable to deeper involvement in criminal networks.

The public is calling for deeper analysis by law enforcement and government agencies into the connection between school vaping cases and possible gang influence. The fear is that if such trends take root in secondary schools and post-secondary institutions, the consequences could go beyond individual health risks to broader issues of school safety and youth criminal involvement.

Vaping Incidents on the Rise: How to Report Them

Vaping remains illegal in Singapore, and authorities are taking a firm stance. The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has extended its hotline hours to accommodate public reporting of vaping-related offences. You can now report such incidents daily, including on public holidays, from 9am to 9pm by calling 6684 2036. Alternatively, use the online portal at www.go.gov.sg/reportvape.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) and Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) have also been urged to step up monitoring efforts in schools and army camps, where cases of vaping have been reportedly widespread.

Let’s continue to look out for our young ones and maintain a vigilant, united front against this growing problem. Every report matters in keeping our communities safe.
