39-year-old Liu Fenni, an employee of U Stars Supermarket, passed away after going into cardiac arrest on 12 September due to kidney failure.
Her boss then donated $10,000 for their funeral expenses as a form of gratitude for all of her hard work and contributions to the shop, according to 8 World News.
Liu’s mother, Mdm Cai, spoke to 8 World News and said that her daughter had been sick for 2 years, and when she suffered a stroke in 2000, she was informed that she had stage 4 kidney failure, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar.
She started going through dialysis and taking medications for her condition last November, but her condition got worse and even had to amputate a big toe on her right foot.
The night before Liu passed away, Mdm Cai said that she had a feeling her daughter might not make it through the night, as she comforted her daughter and told her not to think about it.
She then received a call the next day from the hospital, telling her that her daughter had passed away, and she said she regrets not being by her daughter’s side when she passed away.
Boss said it was to repay her hard work
Liu had previously worked at another supermarket, where she met her current boss who offered to hire her to work at their U Stars Supermarket outlet at Choa Chu Kang Avenue 7, because he admired her work ethic.
Liu was then transferred to the Punggol outlet because the boss was concerned about the heavy workload on her.
Mdm Cai said that the boss had always shown care and concern for her daughter’s health condition, and they had spoken several times about it.
Liu had been working at U Stars for about a year, at the time of her passing.
Mdm Cai said that she had initially refused to accept the boss’s hefty contribution of $10k, but he told her that it was a gesture to repay Liu for all her hard work for the company.
Mdm Cai said that the boss was a kind-hearted person who cares about others and that he also donated money for the funeral expenses of another employee.
