A serious case in Taipei has made headlines after a man took advantage of a young woman who had too much to drink. Despite what happened, the man won’t be going to jail, as the court decided to give him a second chance after he made peace with the victim and agreed to make up for what he did.
Girl Was Too Drunk to Defend Herself
The woman, who is being called Xiao Mei to protect her identity, went partying at a club in Taipei’s Xinyi area with her friend Xiao Min. There, they met Ah Jie and his friend. After drinking together, all four of them went to a hotel in Ximending to rest.
Xiao Mei and Ah Jie ended up in one room together. She had drunk too much and couldn’t think clearly or protect herself. That’s when Ah Jie did things to her without her okay, even though she tried to stop him. She said things like “It hurts” and “No,” but he didn’t stop until she begged him to ask her friend instead.
She was left with scratches and emotional hurt from what happened.

Afterwards, Xiao Mei went to see a doctor to get checked. The medical tests showed clear signs that Ah Jie was involved. He later admitted to what he did and agreed to pay her for the harm he caused. Xiao Mei told the court that she didn’t want to push for a heavy punishment, and asked the judge to give him a lighter sentence.
Court Gives Warning Instead of Jail Time
Even though the court found him guilty of crossing the line, the judge decided not to send Ah Jie to prison. Instead, he got a sentence of 1 year and 10 months, but he won’t have to serve it unless he breaks the rules during the next five years.
During this time, Ah Jie must:
- Stay out of trouble and be under supervision
- Complete 160 hours of community service
- Attend 8 lessons on the law to learn about right and wrong
The judge said the decision was based on the fact that Ah Jie owned up to his actions, said sorry, and is still young and studying.
Why This Matters
Many people feel upset about the outcome, saying someone who hurt another person so badly should have faced stronger punishment. Others believe it’s important to give young offenders a chance to change.
This case reminds us how important it is to respect others’ boundaries and never take advantage of someone who isn’t in the right state to say yes or no. It also shows how speaking up and getting help can make a big difference.
