On the 18th, according to Taiwan media reports, there have been more than 50 follow-up aftershocks, and there have been 6 earthquakes of magnitude 6 or above this year. The Taiwan Meteorological Department announced that Taiwan has entered an “active seismic period”.

According to Taiwan media reports, the Taiwan Meteorological Department stated that it was initially judged that the earthquake was not related to the nearby Chishang land and that the strong earthquake was caused by the compression of tectonic plates under the Central Mountains. The scale of the earthquake is large, and the aftershocks may last for a month. At present, the aftershocks have gradually subsided.

According to the Taiwan Meteorological Department, the latest aftershock occurred at 12:17 on the 18th in Hedong Township, Taitung County, with a magnitude of 3.7 and a focal depth of 12.6 kilometers .
