The Taiwanese Minister of Transportation and Communications, Wang Kwo-tsai announced on 22 February that 500,000 lucky travellers will benefit from their NT$5.3 billion package set aside by the government to boost tourism, according to TVBS news.

They are hoping to attract 6 million tourists annually since lifting their border restrictions and is part of Taiwan’s NT$380 billion post-pandemic stimulus bill that was passed on 21 February.

Aside from the $200 that the travellers will be receiving, travel agencies can also expect to get SGD$440 ot SGD$880 in subsidies for every tour group that they bring into the country.

Taiwanese media outlets, however, have been saying different things about the form of payment due to the lack of information at present.

Taipei Times reported that international travellers will be getting NT$5,000 in vouchers instead, while Taiwan News reported that the sum will be paid out in cash.

Bloomberg, on the other hand, reported that the money might be paid as accommodation discounts or via electronic means.

Not much information has also been released on how foreign travellers can qualify or be chosen for the incentives.

More information will be released at a later date.
