Taiwan’s Public Broadcasting Corporation and China Television Corporation (CTS) issued a series of fake reports on the 20th, claiming that China had invaded Taiwan. The Taiwanese government has stated that it is looking into the problem.
In a news program on the morning of the 20th, CTS aired “Communist missile hits New Taipei City”, “Taipei Port explodes, facilities and ships damaged”, “Enemy agents set fire and plant bombs at Banqiao Station”, “China The Communist Party has accelerated preparations for war “,” (Taiwan) President issued an emergency order” and other series of “fast reports”.
Following the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, the Taiwanese government has grown increasingly concerned about a Chinese military invasion of Taiwan.
On April 21, CTS officially apologized for a series of false alarms, explaining that the announcements were made for firefighting training and were not intended to be broadcast to the public. Those in charge and those responsible have been punished.
TV Station under government investigations
Taiwanese authorities have launched an investigation into Chinese Television System (CTS) after the broadcaster disseminated false information of a Chinese invasion of Taiwan on Wednesday morning (April 20).
According to CNN, the National Communications Commission (NCC) believes CTS may have violated rules against disrupting public order. On Wednesday, the independent body said that it will conduct an inquiry into the event.
At least ten members of the public had lodged complaints against the network, CTS might face fines of up to NT$2 million (S$96,563) for its alleged breaches.
