A woman in Taiwan who allegedly started a fire which took the life of 46 victims is now facing the death penalty.
The fire started by the Taiwanese woman was the worst in decades and it happened in October 2021, burning down a 13 storey apartment block and caused 46 people to lose their life.
Apparently, she started the fire as she wanted to get back at her boyfriend which she claimed was cheating on her.
Authorities statements
Taiwanese authorities had first said that the fire started when a resident, Huang, left unextinguished incense ashes on a sofa and left the building afterwards.
They also said that her intention to get back at her boyfriend by starting a fire in the hopes of embarrassing him lead to something much more major and resulted in lives lost.
She also showed no remorse at all and have been giving inconsistent statements on what she did before she left the apartment.
She had initially said that she lighted the incense to keep mosquitoes away, but changed it to saying that she threw it in a bin and thereafter said she could not remember her actions that day.
