Taiwanese Fugitive Shot Dead While Walking Dog in Kaohsiung

A dramatic shooting incident in Kaohsiung’s Zuoying District shocked residents early this morning when a wanted man was gunned down while taking his dog for a walk. The 51-year-old fugitive, surnamed Luo, was hit multiple times and died at the scene.

According to police, the ambush occurred along Wenxue Road at around 6.50am on 22 August. Luo, who was wanted for fraud and theft, had just stepped out of his home when an assailant lying in wait opened fire. Witnesses reported hearing a flurry of gunshots, with investigators later confirming that 12 rounds were fired. Luo was struck five times in the head, neck, and abdomen.

Authorities believe the attack may have been linked to unresolved debts. Surveillance footage showed the suspect arriving in a white car and parking near a park opposite Luo’s residence, before confronting him. The dispute escalated almost immediately, ending with the fatal gunfire.

Police Launch Manhunt

After the attack, the gunman fled in the same vehicle. Police have since cordoned off the area, collected forensic evidence, and launched a city-wide manhunt. Officers revealed they have identified both the suspect and the getaway car, and are now intensifying their efforts to track him down.

The case is being directed by prosecutors from the Qiaotou District Office, who have ordered Luo’s mobile phone and personal contacts to be examined for leads. Investigators are looking into his financial records and criminal associations to establish whether the killing was tied to illegal dealings or organised crime.

Residents on Edge

The brazen nature of the daylight shooting has unsettled the local community, with many residents expressing shock that such violence erupted outside their homes. Some witnesses told reporters they were jolted awake by the sound of repeated gunfire.

Police have appealed to the public for cooperation, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward. The killing highlights Taiwan’s ongoing struggles with gun-related crimes linked to underground disputes, despite strict firearm regulations.

Luo’s death not only closes the chapter on his life as a fugitive but also raises wider concerns about how debt disputes and criminal ties can spiral into deadly confrontations.
