Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan Jin shared his thoughts on the Russian invasion on Ukraine and highlighted the importance of Singapore’s Total Defence Day.
He said that there is a reason why we just commemorated Total Defence Day recently and why we continue to be vigilant each and every day.
Tan also highlighted that the Singapore Armed Forces and the Home Team stands guard 24/7 to protect our sovereignty and independence.

There is a reason why we just commemorated Total Defence Day recently. And why we continue to be vigilant each and every day. Our men and women of the Singapore Armed Forces and our Home Team stand guard 24/7 so that we remain sovereign and independent.
“Singapore strongly condemns any unprovoked invasion of a sovereign country under any pretext…We reiterate that the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be respected…We hope military actions will cease immediately; and urge a peaceful settlement of the dispute, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.”
I’d recently met with Her Excellency Zelenko Kateryna, Ukrainian Ambassador to Singapore. I remembered discussing with her about the security situation in her country. Little would one guess that this day would come.
