The traffic police said that they would explore further enforcement operations in the area in addition to road-calming measures such as more road humps and speed regulating strips to slow traffic down.

Residents around the area have been complaining about the roaring sounds of speeding cars that have jolted them awake at odd hours over the years.

The speed limit along that fateful stretch of road that killed 5, was 50km/hr.

Although the traffic police refused to elaborate further, they did disclose that enforcement operations are stepped up during the festive season, consistent with past years.

MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, Indranee Rajah, commented that the noise complaints about speeding were mostly in the Cantonment Road area.

She added that there were several solutions, which included adding traffic cameras and/or including speed bumps – however she pointed out that these measures also affect traffic at all hours.

She has since asked the traffic police to work with the LTA to solve this problem.

The area where the BMW crashed is at 37 Tanjong Pagar Road, which Jospehine Teo is the MP in charge.

Teo remarked that speeding aloing any stretch of road is concerning and that she welcomes a review by the traffic police on additional measures.
