A recent incident involving a Strides cab driver has raised concerns about their ethics and service. A post shared on social media recounts a frustrating experience that serves as a cautionary tale for all cab riders.
Facebook user Gabriel Tan shared how he had hailed a cab from Marina Bay Sands with the destination set for Punggol. The most logical and efficient route would have been through the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway (KPE).
However, to the passenger’s surprise, the driver drove past the KPE along the ECP. When the passenger questioned the route change, the driver claimed that there was a major accident causing a one-hour traffic jam on the KPE. He insisted that he had taken a longer route to avoid the congestion.
Curiously, as they passed by the entrance to the KPE, the passenger noticed no signs of a traffic jam. This discrepancy raised doubts about the driver’s explanation and decision-making. Furthermore, the driver failed to inform the passengers about the change in route before proceeding, leaving them feeling misled and frustrated.
To make matters worse, the fare for the trip skyrocketed from an estimated $26 or $27 to a hefty $33.75. This unexpected increase in cost left the passenger feeling taken advantage of and compelled them to take action.
In response to the incident, the dissatisfied passenger lodged a complaint with Strides and requested a refund.
Here is what he said
Avoid taking this Strides cab *license plate number redacted* driven by *name redacted*.
Yesterday, at 7 38pm, I took from marina bay sands to punggol and the appropriate way would be to take via KPE. However when he drove pass the KPE along ECP and I question him, he mention there is a major accident in the KPE which cause a 1 hour jam, end up he drove one big round via ECP back to punggol.
He said he got stuck there for 1 hour and that’s how he knew but when we drove pass KPE I don’t see any jam at the entrance going in. On top of that, he shd have highlighted us before making the decision. End up our bill is $33.75 from possibly $26/$27.
I have logded a complain and request for refund from strides. For all cab riders please before of these unethical tactics
