On August 1, a video was captured showing a physical altercation between two men, believed to be a taxi driver and a personal mobility aid (PMA) user, in the car park of an HDB estate, possibly located at Hougang Avenue 5.
The fight was recorded by residents of one of the nearby flats, and voices off-camera provided a hilarious running commentary explaining the events leading up to the altercation.
According to the commentary, the taxi driver was reversing his vehicle when the PMA user got in the way. The taxi was seen parked awkwardly, suggesting it had stopped halfway while reversing, with the PMA on its right-hand side on the road.
Prior to the physical altercation, there was a commotion involving shouting in dialect, though it wasn’t clear what was said.
The driver appeared to shout at the PMA user, who had walked away towards the bottom of the block of flats, to return and settle the matter face-to-face. The PMA user returned with a mop in hand to confront the driver.
A passerby tried to intervene, but the PMA user ignored it and used the mop to hit the driver, who blocked the blow with his left arm.
The PMA user managed to land three blows before the driver counterpunched with a clean right, knocking the PMA user to the ground. The driver then continued with a series of consecutive blows.
The altercation escalated further as the driver attempted to wrest the mop handle away from the PMA user. The PMA user didn’t give up easily and fought back, even putting the driver in a headlock.
However, the driver regained control, smacking the PMA user’s head with the mop twice, causing him to momentarily fall to the ground.
At this point, a woman and a man in a blue singlet intervened to stop the fight. They managed to separate the two men, and two more men stepped in to break up the proceedings.
