TAXI DRIVER WHO STOLE GROCERY VOUCHERS TO SUPPORT PREGNANT WIFE, JAILED

R Mohan, a taxi driver who stole 30 grocery vouchers from several unlocked letterboxes at Holland Close, was sentenced to 5 days of jail on 4 March.

He was reportedly in financial difficulties and needed to support his pregnant wife.

He noticed the unlocked letterboxes and tried his luck to see if there were anything valuable inside; he then found 2 sets of 15 $10 grocery vouchers and took them.

The total vouchers he stole was worth $300, and were distributed by the Government as part of Budget 2020 for needy Singaporeans with household expenses.

Mohan made a restitution of $230 to the victims while the remaining seven vouchers were recovered fro his home.
