TEEN ADVERTISED TWO UNDERAGE GIRLS 16 & 17 TO SELL BODY ON TELEGRAM

In a harrowing tale that exposes the dark underbelly of online spaces, a 17-year-old teenager recently pleaded guilty to six charges, including violations under the Women’s Charter and Prevention of Human Trafficking Act. This shocking incident revolves around the exploitation of two underage girls, identified as V1 and V2, who, unfortunately, became victims of a sinister online scheme. Let’s delve into the disconcerting details of this case, revealing the manipulation, exploitation, and legal consequences that unfolded.

Genesis of Exploitation

According to Straits Times, The disquieting narrative begins with the teen’s acquaintance with V1, a 16-year-old girl grappling with financial burdens while caring for her child. The teen, having learned of her predicament, introduced her to a dubious Telegram chat group promising lucrative job opportunities for quick cash.

Lure into a Web of Deception

Joining the chat group in July 2022, the teen posted advertisements offering V1 a seemingly high-paying job. However, the catch was alarming – she had to provide sexual services to earn money. Desperate for financial support, V1 reluctantly agreed to the arrangement, unaware of the legal and moral implications that lay ahead.

Manipulation Unveiled

The teen, aware of V1’s age, proceeded to falsely advertise her as a 17-year-old social escort, exploiting her vulnerability for personal gain. The advertisements attracted at least five customers, some engaging in paid sexual activities with the underage victim.

The Introduction of a Second Victim

As the sinister plot unfolded, the teen encountered V2, introduced by V1. V2, too, expressed an interest in providing sexual services to alleviate financial struggles. By this time, the teen had assumed the role of the chat group’s administrator, expanding his exploitative operations.

Escalation of Exploitation

The teen requested explicit photos and personal details from V2 to create advertisements, ultimately securing at least four customers for her services. One customer, identified as Muhamad Reduan, reported feeling scammed after engaging V2 for sexual services. The legal age for such activities in Singapore is 18, making this entire operation illegal.

The Unraveling of Deceit

Upon police intervention, Muhamad Reduan admitted to being aware of V2’s age but claimed ignorance about the legal age for such services. This led to a separate investigation, revealing the teen’s attempts to obstruct justice by altering the chat group’s title and deleting conversations with customers.

Justice and its Pursuit

Deputy Public Prosecutor Tay Jia En highlighted the vulnerability of the victims and the teen’s blatant exploitation. Calls for a reformative training suitability report underscored the need for a severe rehabilitative sentence, considering the sustained pattern of criminal conduct exhibited by the accused.

Judicial Deliberations

Deputy Principal District Judge Kessler Soh, acknowledging the teen’s youth and it being his first offence, called for both reformative training and probation suitability reports. The pending sentence, to be delivered in December, holds significant implications for the teen’s future and serves as a critical moment in the pursuit of justice.

Conclusion

This distressing incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk in the digital realm, especially for vulnerable individuals. The exploitation of underage victims demands a comprehensive examination of our societal safeguards and a collective effort to protect those most vulnerable
